Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation
The Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation is the highest training we offer for those who are already working in outdoor recreation or those who want to get their career started. Once completed, you’ll be qualified to guide other people to participate in specific outdoor activities.
It’s a 12-month course with 31 units at 20 hours a week, and it’s delivered via a combination of 13.5 hours on campus and 6.5 hours of online learning. There are minimal prerequisites such as an on-campus or phone interview to determine the suitability and elective requirements for the course, intermediate level English, and completion of year 10 or equivalent.
What Outdoor Activities are Included?
There are plenty of outdoor activities included in your course to help you become practice your guiding skills in a controlled environment.
The activities you participate in will depend on your specific interests but include:
- Scuba Diving
- Ropes Courses
- Extra surfing and diving elective packages for a set fee
- Extra Tour Guide training for a set fee
- Extra Climbing and Abseiling Guide training for a set fee
Units of Competency
You will need to complete all 31 units of competency to gain your qualification. They consist of 19 core and compulsory electives and 12 electives in your chosen specialisation.
The core units will teach skills such as first aid and risk management, developing and planning outdoor recreation activities, search and rescue skills, occupational health and safety policies, how to facilitate adventure-based learning activities and lead tour groups.
